With proper surgical technique, superficial or partial superficial parotidectomy can be performed safely and within a reasonable operating time. This chapter addresses anatomic considerations related to parotid surgery; discusses the planning of the operation; outlines the operative technique of parotidectomy (incision, creation of skin flaps, identification of facial nerve, parenchymal dissection, and drainage and closure); and considers common complications. Figures illustrate key steps in the procedure. This chapter has 40 references.
