1 Breast CancerBreast cancer is the most common cancer among women and the second leading cause of cancer-related death overall. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the course of her lifetime. This chapter addresses the assessment and management of these cancers, including clinical evaluation (history and physical), investigative studies (imaging and biopsy), clinical staging, and treatment of invasive and noninvasive cancer by means of surgery, irradiation, or systemic drug and hormone therapy. Special considerations, such as breast cancer in pregnancy, male breast cancer, and follow-up after treatment, are also discussed. This chapter contains 52 references.
