School of Medicine; chaired and published the results of the first cooperative cancer group protocol that examined the use of minimally invasive lobectomy for lung cancer (CALGB 39802, JCO Nov 2007) and is co-authoring The Atlas of Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery which will be available early in 2010. Dr. Swanson is also a member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS), the Cardiothoracic Surgery Network (CSN), the General Thoracic Surgical Club (GTSC), and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS). He will be directing the upcoming Second International Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery Summit this October in Boston.
Special interests: Thoracic oncology including lung, esophageal, and pleural malignancies as well as malignancies of the mediastinum including thymomas. Dr. Swanson's research will compliment the existing extensive divisional strength focused on the biology of thoracic malignancy. Also, he is currently co-investigating the role of micro-RNA in esophageal cancer. |
